Spam Art

“Save As” is a series of images containing tens of thousands of spam emails by Adam Harvey. Each email’s subject is automatically layered, one at a time, with a custom script into a text mosaic.

He says:

This series of images was started in 2004 and the project continued into 2006 when an exhibition was held in Brooklyn to show the final images. The emails I used for the source material were collected during the years 2001 through 2005…

At the time I made these, spam email was an overwhelming problem, but a curious one. Some of the emails were almost poetic. These images are a documentation and homage to the creative, but banal themes of spam.
