Abstract:Photography has always played an important role in forming our sense of place. Individual photographs have been crucial in establishing the significance of special places in Australian culture. Now, however, the digital revolution and the online revolution have opened up new possibilities for creating expanded photographic views of Australian places from archival photographs and uploaded personal photographs. These go beyond the conventional single frame into what we call a “metaview”, a coherent view made up of multiple online images. How is this emerging form, hosted by libraries, museums and major websites, affecting the formation of a sense of place in Australia? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
